The military wrist watch is a vital part of any military personnel’s basic survival kit. Not only will a military timepiece give you the exact time, it could even save your life!
 
The military wristwatch can give you basic navigation in an emergency without the use or need of a compass. You can use any wristwatch for this as long as it is a non-digital watch.
 
Military watches are one of the  best timepiece to use when out in the wilderness, either when on a bushcraft weekend, hunting or just hiking.
 
A military watch will give you the exact time whilst withstanding the very harsh outdoor conditions, where most ordinary wrist watches would let you down..
 
So how will my military watch save my life!
 
If you should get lost in the wild you can use your military watch as a compass to work out which direction you should be travelling in.
 
Hold your military watch in the palm of your hand with the 12 o’clock to your left, (so the 12 is in the 9 o’clock position as you look at it) now wind the hour hand so it points towards the sun. The halfway position between the hour hand and the 12 o’clock is south..
 
In order to keep the correct time you must remember to adjust the hands back immediately on your military wristwatch to the correct position. This is particularly important in an emergency, as your watch will only work as a compass if you have the correct time!
